Decorating Hints and Tips
When comparing quotes it is important to ensure that they are on a like-for-like basis. Do they specify exactly the works to be undertaken with a fixed price so there are no nasty surprises halfway through the job?.
Do they specify exactly which materials and manufacturer will be used?
Cheaper and poorer quality materials can make a big difference to the cost of a job and perhaps more importantly to the quality & durability. Are they an established company who can provide references, insured, qualified and able to give competent advice?
Our opinion on colour choice
Don't make your choice from colour cards or swatches alone. Use them to narrow down your choice and then purchase test pots apply them to several areas in the room and view them over a few days in varying light conditions.
Test pots of paints from most manufactures are available from Brewers with branches throughout the South East Always choose trade samples as there can be a variation in colours on retail paints sold in B&Q, homebase etc. We are happy to provide and apply samples for you prior to commencement of accepted works.
The Seasons
It is not advisable to undertake exterior decorating outside of the spring/summer season due to many factors such as the moisture content of timbers and other substrates (moisture content above 16% in timbers will almost certainly lead to early failure of coatings) the poor or retarded drying and curing of coatings outside of there recommended temperature range.
Whilst there are products on the market that allow for out of season decorating they are far from ideal.
We are happy to quote for exterior works out of season and hold them as fixed price quotes for the following spring / summer.
